Oui, mon ordinateur a redemarrer plusieurs fois. pas de xorg.
J'ai bien un affichage graphique pourme logger, une fois loggé l'ecran devient noir, et quand je fais ctrl+alt+f2 mon affichage revient sur un shell.

Il y a eu un xorg quand je testais des trucs pour me dépanner seul, je l'ai effacé depuis.
Je viens d'aller voir il y avais un xorg.conf~ et un xorg.conf.back, je viens des effacer mais le problème persiste.

Je ne sais pas si je fais bien de parler de mon problème qui ressemble à celui de bien d'autres sur ce fil... Carte graphique radeon 9500, fedora 12 installé à partir du cd live gnome. Après installation : résolution maximum 800x600 pour un écran qui supporte 1600x1200. Que du bonheur !

Pour ma part, j'ai une carte ATI 3650 avec un écran Samsung 2270. Elle a été immédiatement reconnue, l'écran aussi. Dès le démarrage, encore en mode texte, l'affichage est déjà en 1920. Au passage en graphique, idem. Seul défaut, l'affichage pas très rapide et les saccades pour déplacer les fenêtres.
J'ai installé xorg-x11-drv-ati-experimental et tout est beaucoup plus fluide : faire tourner le cube n'empêche pas une video de continuer à s'afficher normalement.

Encore une fois "radeon" est le pilote par défaut! vous n'avez pas besoin de mettre un xorg.conf... pour l'histoire de la résolution j'y travaille!

j'utilise en mode open-gl et j'ai une espèce d'artefact de rectangle noir. mon terminal est transparent donc ça ne doit pas être un soucis de composite non?

Sur le bugzilla il y a des rapports au sujet du problème avec les résolutions et la détection des écrans, peut être que la nouvelle méthode n'est pas fonctionnel avec tout les écrans...
Je travail actuellement à la documentation sur la gestion des écrans. Travail qui n'est pas facilité par le nombre de systèmes différents et n'apportant pas toujours de bon résultat.
Exemple :

gnome-display-properties (si je ne me trompe pas...) à l'air d'être un peut mieux, mais...
systemsettings ->Affichage de KDE qui à l'air d'être bien, mais reste encore un peut à la ramasse actuellement quand il faut gérer un écran indépendamment.
D'après ce que j'ai compris l'affichage se base sur xinerama pour le multi-moniteurs, utilisation qui ne m'a jamais vraiment apporter un semblant de joie avec les ATI, alors qu'avec xrandr c'est mieux et bien plus puissant...
Pour les sorties TV vous pouvez aussi voir du coté du "man radeon" pour le moment, je dois mettre le manuel à jour en français pour la doc (... je me demande si une traduction officiel ne serait pas encore mieux pour avoir directement un "man radeon" en langue de nostre communauté???)

bioinfornatics : J'avais le même genre de bogue avec le pilote propriétaire, sans doute un problème d'implémentation et comme le pilote et mesa se base sur les docs techniques, spécifications, et autres bout de code officiel qui servent aussi au pilote propriétaire, il faut peut être voir auprès de cairo pour améliorer le support non? Voir en faire un rapport sur le bugzilla puisqu'il y a des développeurs de mesa/radeon employée par redhat...xorg-x11-drv-ati-experimental vous le sortez d'où????

Au premier essai impossible d'avoir plus que du 1024*768 (avec nomodeset).
J'installe system-config-display, c'est mieux mais cette fois je suis limité à du 1400*1050 :-?

C'est bien beau de ne plus vouloir passer par un xorg.conf avec du toutotomatix, mais il aurait peut être du falloir avoir les outils pour configurer tout cela... ce qui reste pratiquement introuvable... sauf en repassant par le xorg.conf...
