Je suis un nouvel utilisateur de Linux (j'ai quelques notions de base mais sans plus) et j'ai choisi d'installer Fedora 34 sur un vieux iMac (voir signature 🙂

Après plusieurs installations insatisfaisantes, (formatage laborieux du disque), j'ai enfin réussi à installer le système d'exploitation.

Le problème apparent que j'ai et que j'aimerais régler dans un premier temps c'est:
il y a un ventilateur qui tourne constamment à plein régime, même lorsque je mets l'ordi en état de veille.

J'imagine qu'il va brûler rapidement à tourner ainsi.

Si quelqu'un veut me guider, je suis prêt à me mettre à la tâche pour identifier le problème et le régler.

Je crois lire que le ventilateur du disque dur tourne à plein régime.
HDD : 6103 RPM (min = 1100 RPM, max = 6300 RPM)

Le boitier métallique du iMac est relativement chaud en haut à gauche.

Avez-vous regardé ce que donnait comme indications la commande "top"?
Oui, je viens de le faire et il n'y a rien qui utilise vraiment le CPU ou la MEM. Le %CPU ne monte jamais plus haut que 2 ou 3% et c'est par systemd+ .
Pas moyen de copier le résultat de la commande, le tableau est constamment en mouvement.
Ctrl+C permet de sortir de la commande.
Vous pouvez ainsi copier ce qui est marqué.

Il faut également regarder ce que donne "load average" (1ère ligne de top).

Je ne sais pas interpréter ces informations. 🙁
À première vue, il ne semble n'y avoir rien d'anormal.

Peut-être essayer de regarder ce qu'il en est au niveau du disque-SSD.
Avec Gnome-disk-utility, il est possible de regarder les données SMART et de lancer un auto-test.

Ayant passé tout mon temps à essayer d'installer Fedora, (j'ai finalement réussi, yeah) je n'ai pas eu le réflexe d'aller consulter les caractéristiques du iMac. J'apprécie énormément ton geste de me donner le lien direct pour palier à ce manque.

Je vais donc fouiller du côté de Gnome-disk-utility aussi.

Si quelqu'un passe par ici et qu'il peut ajouter sa touche personnelle pour régler le problème de ventilation ou du moins confirmer ou non si c'est normal.. je suis ouvert.

La page que tu me réfères ne m'a pas été utile finalement, mais je la garde en réserve si je dois aller jusqu'à bidouiller dans les tripes de ma machine. 😉

J'ai réussi à dénicher une manoeuvre pour réinitialiser le System Manager Controller (smc) sur Mac.

J'ai utilisé les deux techniques proposées, et j'ai réinitialisé aussi, PRAM/NVRAM (Qu'est-ce?) comme suggéré sur la page que je viens de partager.
J'ai laissé refroidir ma machine un instant, après toutes les manoeuvres, le temps de boire un café. 🙂

J'ai redémarré normalement
ouvert la console: $ sensors
et j'ai lu la vitesse du ventilateur du disque dur.

Depuis quelques minutes je vérifie cette vitesse. Elle est variable. Ce qui est un bon signe.
Différentes vitesses du ventilateur signifie que quelque part, un système de contrôle fait sa job.

11h43: 2450rpm
11h51: 3159rpm
11h58: 3680rpm
12h04: 4070rpm
12h12: 4554rpm
12h16: 4854rpm

Mon iMac devient chaud au toucher. J'imagine que c'est normal cette chaleur pour un Mac. Je m'attends donc à ce que le ventilateur tourne rapidement, mais au moins, sa vitesse n'est plus constamment au maximum.

Je vais donc inscrire que le problème est résolu et surveiller le fonctionnement de ce ventilateur-là quelque temps encore.
Solution: sur iMac, réinitialiser le System Manager Controller (smc).

question toute bête : as-tu ouvert le boitier pour vérifier que les radiateurs ne sont pas encrassés ?
ça expliquerait la chauffe, et aussi le fait que le ventilateur tourne toujours à fond.

La question n'est pas bête du tout, sur un PC je l'aurais fait, j'ai assemblé quelques machines dans le passé et je suis à l'aise pour les tripoter.

Par contre, sur cet iMac, on m'a laissé savoir qu'il était risqué de l'ouvrir, Apple prenant un malin plaisir à rendre les choses compliquées.

Depuis que j'ai lu ton message, je pense de plus en plus à me lancer dans cette aventure. Il faudra que je fasse des recherches avant pour vérifier s'il n'y aurait pas des choses spéciales à savoir avant de démonter ce type de boitier tout en un.

Ce que je fais dans des cas pareils c'est préparer des cartons, de l'adhésif et des stylos de couleurs.
Je marque chaque vis et pièce et là où elle va en la collant sur les cartons (du papier style bristol faut aussi l'affaire, il faut juste que ça soit plus solide que du simple papier.)

Je fais également des photos à divers stades du démontage, ça aide pour le rmontage.

Je regardais justement des vidéos sur le sujet. J'ai visionné les vidéos que tu m'as proposées et je crois pouvoir arriver à démonter mon iMac.

Il me manque un tournevis torx de la grosseur approprié et des ventouses. Il y a bien un projet de nettoyage qui se profile à l'horizon.

Dans une autre vidéo, j'ai appris une chose directement en lien avec le problème du ventilateur qui tourne à plein régime.

On dit que lorsqu'on change le disque d'origine du iMac pour un SSD, il faut installer un logiciel qui régule le ventilateur sinon il va tourner à plein régime. Je mets le lien de cette vidéo directement là où on parle de cela.

Le SSD ne possède pas de connecteur pour la sonde de température...

Sur mon iMac, le DD a, paraît-il, été changé pour un SSD. Je pense que le problème que j'ai pourrait venir de là.

$ sensors
me donne comme information ceci, l'ordi roule depuis quelques heures déjà:
ODD : 998 RPM (min = 1000 RPM, max = 4350 RPM)
HDD : 6103 RPM (min = 1100 RPM, max = 6300 RPM)
CPU : 1200 RPM (min = 1200 RPM, max = 4000 RPM)

Le ventilo du HDD tourne encore à pleine vitesse. Bon, on verra au démontage s'il est vrai que le DD d'origine a été changé pour un SSD et je verrai à ce moment là quoi faire.

Pour celles et ceux que ça intéresse, je partage un lien instructif qui me pousse à conclure que l'iMac sur lequel je suis va toujours demeuré bruyant, avec un ventilateur qui tourne autour de 6000rpm.

J'ai eu une idée de bricolage:
mettre un potentiomètre rotatif sur le fil qui contrôle le ventilateur pour réguler sa vitesse manuellement. Un petit trou dans le boitier, permettrait à ce fil de sortir et je placerais ce potentiomètre à porté de la main. Il faudrait surveiller la température des composantes régulièrement et ajuster la vitesse occasionnellement. C'est faisable, mais je ne suis pas rendu là.
Sur mon PC il y a un interrupteur à trois positions pour contrôler les ventilateurs manuellement. "low-medium-high". C'est de là que m'est venu l'idée.

Bon, je m'arrête ici. On partage toutes ces informations au cas où elles aideraient quelqu'un évidemment.
Voilà où j'en suis.
Je retire l'étiquette résolu car le problème est encore là mais je n'ai plus d'attente.
Mon iMac gagne cette manche! 😐
Bon la piste n'était pas mauvaise en soi mais il est possible que ton SSD ne retourne pas de température ce qui engendrerait ce phénomène à la longue.

Je remplis présentement un tableau pour noter les températures internes du iMac et la vitesse à laquelle tourne le ventilateur du HDD.

etc... je vais l'indiquer si tout cela change fortement,


Bon, où je suis rendu là dedans c'est que j'ai installé mbpfan
-help m'indique 4 possibilités

1- # mbpfan -h

2- # mbpfan -f
run info ground

3- # mbpfan -t
run test

4- # mbpfan -v

et pendant que j'écris ce message, sensors continu de me donner les mêmes infos que plus haut mentionnées. À un degré près.

Ce programme devrait pouvoir être paramétré en quelque part sur mon système. Mais où?
J'ai testé les deux options autres que -h et -v pour le moment:

J'ai ouvert une première fois le fichier mbpfan.pib et j'ai trouvé un chiffre: 15895 d'inscrit le reste du fichier est vide.
J'ai ouvert le fichier une seconde fois, trente minutes plus tard et le même chiffre, rien n'a changé.

Si tu peux m'éclairer sur les retours de -f et de -t ? Je ne comprends pas bien comment fonctionne ce programme et je ne sais pas où le paramétrer ou bien au moins consulter comment il gère les vitesse du HDD.

Le iMac est silencieux. Enfin. Mais je crains que mbpfan ne soit pas un programme efficace à 100%. J'ai suivi des pistes sur le web pour arriver à l'installer. Avec les dépôts que j'ai il était là.

# dnf search mbpfan puis en voyant qu'il était là, je l'ai installé.

Conclusion:
Le temps d'écrire ce roman, les mesures de sensors sont demeurés les mêmes que sur le tableau plus haut
hddtemp donne 45 C

mbpfan apporte donc une amélioration importante pour régler mon problème.
Il manque juste un prog qui me donne les infos de sensors dans une petite fenêtre quelque part sur le bureau pour avoir mbpfan à l'oeil.
