[Question] Installation drivers acx100 sur fc4 (compilation kernel)

Salut à tous, j'essaye d'installer ma carte wifi pci DWL 520+ sur fc4

J'ai deja testé ndiswrapper, mais sans succes. J'ai trouvé un tuto pour installer les drivers acx100 qui doivent fonctionner avec ma carte.

Le probleme est que j'ai deja essayé de suivre ce tuto, mais il faut recompiler le noyau et j'ai un un ptit probleme, un message d'erreur à la compilation (newbee oblige 😃) et plus de support d'ethernet ni de mes clavier et souris sans fils ... l'installation etant fraiche, j'ai donc tout reinstallé.

Avant de refaire la meme bourde j'aimerai savoir ce qui cloche, je copie donc le tuto ici :

Introduction

This page describes how to do a manual install of the driver (works for any distro). You will probably first want to take a look at Distribution list to see if there are instructions specific to your distro.

System requirements

Make sure you have the appropriate kernel headers installed. If you're not sure, you may need to seek assistance from someone familiar with your distribution.

Next, you need to make sure you have hotplug firmware loading configured. Again, check with someone familiar with your distro about how to do this. Most modern distros are shipping with it enabled now.

Downloading

You need to get the appropriate Firmware for your card. You'll need to rename it according to FIRMWARE NAMES and place the files in the hotplug firmware folder (/lib/firmware/, on this Gentoo box).

Go to http://acx100.erley.org/ and choose the latest snapshot. Take note of the URL of the file you want, but don't download it yet.

Outside the kernel tree

Now we'll setup a directory to do our building in:

cd /usr/src
mkdir acx-20051202

Next up we get a hold of the source tree and extract it. Now is where you'll use your snapshot you picked above.

cd acx-20051202
wget http://acx100.erley.org/acx-20051202.tar.bz2
tar xjvf acx-20051202.tar.bz2

The reason we had to make the directory rather than just uncompressing the tarball directly into /usr/src is that the tarballs are designed for use in the kernel tree, not for building outside of it.

Next up, the building stage

make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`

Note those are back ticks `` NOT single quotes

What that command does is tells the make command to use the build tree from your current kernel's headers. uname -r returns the kernel version (like 2.6.14-patched) and back ticks execute the command inside of them and return them in the place of the back ticks. The M=`pwd` tells make that the source tree your building is at where you are now. This command would be the equivalent of: make -C /lib/modules/2.6.14-patched/build M=/usr/src/acx-20051202 on a 2.6.14 system with a patch set named 'patched', using the 20051202 snapshot uncompressed into acx-20051202.

Inside the kernel tree (If your kernel is inside /usr/src/linux)

First off, I'm going to assume that your kernel is in /usr/src/linux. That means that you have an unpacked kernel there, preferbaly of a recent vintage. So, lets go there:

cd /usr/src/linux

Now, lets get into the proper directory in the kernel.

(the proper directory is /usr/src/kernel-source2.x.xx for debian users)

cd drivers/net/wireless

And make a directory for our driver.

mkdir acx
cd acx

Now, lets get the driver and unpack it.

wget http://acx100.erley.org/acx-20060106.tar.bz2 # make sure you get the latest
tar xvjf acx-20060106.tar.bz2

Perhaps you want to disable the USB build? If so, you want to comment out lines dealing with USB in these 2 files (replace ${EDITOR} with your favorite text-editor, vim/nano/emacs/gedit/whatever).

${EDITOR} acx_config.h # comment out the USB line with '//'
${EDITOR} Makefile # comment out the USB line with '#'

Now, you need to modify the Makefile in the parent directory.

cd ..
echo 'obj-m += acx/' >> Makefile

If you are going to make a distro kernel or a patchset that is potentially used by people who don't have an ACX1xx card, you should probably use the Kconfig system. This part left as an exercise to the reader 😉

Anyway, all thats life to do is configure and compile your kernel.

cd ../../..
make menuconfig # You won't find an acx option - don't worry about it, it will get built anyway
make && make modules_install

And, done! 😉

Testing and inserting into kernel

If building finishes, we need to test the module out. First, make sure that any old modules are unloaded. This command can help facilitate this:

lsmod | grep acx

That will list any modules with 'acx' in the name. Watch for acx or acx_pci or acx_usb

modprobe -r <module name> will unload a module

To test that our module works, do:

insmod ./acx.ko

If it doesn't output anything, the module loaded at the very least.

Next we see if it created the appropriate wireless interfaces.

iwconfig

That command should show you something about your card, if not, check dmesg for errors.

Assuming everything has loaded successfully, you can move onto installing the driver into /lib .

make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd` modules_install

Now you are ready to configure your wireless interface however your distro handles them.

C'est au stade du "make && make modules_install" que c'est parti en sucette. J'obtenais le message :

D'abord, je me demande si les sources du noyau sont installées par defaut.

Je suis en ce moment en train de mettre à jour via yum, je reteste ensuite .

Bon, coté mise à jour du noyau c'est bien ce que je pensais, il est pas installé par defaut, je l'ai donc récupéré sur kernel.org .

J'ai donc compilé mon noyau pour tester, et là pas de message d'erreur.
J'ai copié les drivers Windows dans /lib/firmwares/ en les renommant en tiacx...
J'ai ensuite suivi cette méthode :

qui apparement ne necessite pas re recompiler tout le noyau, j'ai bien les modules acx.o et acx.ko qui sont créés.

Je fais alors un insmod acx100

Le pilote à l'air bien chargé, la carte est vue en wlan0 dans iwconfig, mais toutes les caractéristiques Tx Rx quality ... sont à zero, impossible de la faire fonctionner .

D'autre part, la carte est vue comme eth1 dans le gestionnaire de cartes reseau, bizarre ?

A l'aide !!! 😃

Personne n'a jamais installé cette carte ou similaire ?

Tu n'as pas besoin de recompiler ton noyau pour faire fonctionner ce module. Donc prendre les sources sur kernel.org ne sert a rien.
Il te suffit d'avoir le kernel mis à jour pour FC4 ainsi que le kernel-devel correspondant.
Une fois le module chargé, as-tu pensé a suivre la manipulation concernant les firmwares ?

Par ailleurs as-tu également paramétrer un profil Wifi (ESSID, WEP, type de configuration IP ...)

Tu parle de renommer les firmwares win2000 :
RADIO11.BIN en tiacx100r11
WLAGEN.BIN en tiacx100

?? Si c'est ca, alors oui 😃

Apparement, il me manque des firmwares, j'ai tiacx100 tiacx100r11 dans /lib/firmwares .

J'ai pas du bien comprendre, il me semblait que cela suffisait ! Je comprend plus la manip a faire avec les firmwares du coup 🙁 Quels firmwares ajouter et à quels firmwares windows correspondent ils ?

D'autre part, comment faire pour tester si l'ajout d'un firmware resoud mon probleme (sans rebooter )

Bon, j'ai finalement utilisé driverloader de Linuxant, c'est tres simple à installer et à configurer, seul hic : c'est payant !

Pour le prix de la licence (20?) on a un carte wifi 54g neuve, donc je compte changer ma carte !

Existe t'il une liste de compatibilité entre fc4 et les différentes cartes wifi ?

Au passage : je voulais pas laisser tomber sans savoir d'ou venait le probleme, je me suis donc acharné 😃

Et j'ai réussi à faire fonctionner ma carte, voici ma démarche :

j'ai tout d'abord rapatrié les sources du kernel correspondant à ma version sur kernel.org

J'ai ensuite suivi cette méthode :

  cd /usr/src
  mkdir acx-20051202
  cd acx-20051202

J'ai telechargé les derniers drivers
wget http://acx100.erley.org/acx-20051202.tar.bz2
Nb : De nouvelles versions apparaissent chaque jour, chercher la derniere sur http://acx100.erley.org (les versions sont numérotées par dates).

 tar xjvf acx-20051202.tar.bz2

Pour décompresser le tout

Puis compilation :

 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`

Ici, je ne sais plus si j'ai eu a copier le fichier acx.ko ou pas, il ne me semble pas, mais si un message d'erreur apparait, essayer de chercher de ce coté 😉.

Ensuite, je charge le module :

modprobe acx

Puis je regarde le Log :

dmesg

Je vois qu'il n'a pas trouvé les firmwares, et je vois aussi que la version du driver acx est 1.9.8b (dans mon cas)

C'est ici que se trouvait mon probleme, les firmwares sont apparement liés aux versions, j'ai trouvé une archive avec les firmwares deja renommés ici : http://195.66.192.167/linux/acx_patches/fw.tar.bz2

Je les telecharge et décompresse, l'archive comprend les firmwares acx100 et acx111 (54 Mbpsà pour différentes versions du driver acx100, je copie ceux qui m'intéressent dans /lib/firmwares/.

Je décharge acx par :

 modprobe -r acx

Puis le recharge :

modprobe acx

Ensuite, la sempiternelle configuration via iwconfig ... ou le Gui pour ceux qui l'utilisent

J'espere que ce servira à quelqun, car j'ai pas mal galléré pour y arriver 😃
