Je ne sais pas si cela peut aider, mais la "résolution" de mon problème c'est faite de manière plus que pragmatique.

1. J'ai lancé system-config-display ce qui a crée un xorg.conf
2. Je suis allé me balader dans Administration»Display»Hardware»Monitor et j'ai tenté de dire à F11 que j'avais tel moniteur (il propose un très large choix je pense que tu pourras trouver ton bonheur)
3. Ensuite je me suis battu dans Preferences»Display pour faire comprendre à F11 que l'écran "Unknown" trônant à côté de celui du "laptop" devait être mis en 1680x1050.

J'avoue avoir cliqué un peu comme un fou-fou, avoir eu quelques ratages mais au final vers le 3ème essai cela a marché.
Maintenant ma façon de faire n'est peut-être pas la meilleure (j'en veux pour preuve le "Kernel failure" auquel j'ai droit À CHAQUE FOIS que l'écran affiche 1680x1050 au démarrage).
je ne suis pas sur ce forum pour rien a priori ...

Il dit qu'il ne peut pas afficher cette résolution car la synchro verticale ne correspond pas à ce qu'attend l'écran.

Et à voir le pilote que tu utilises, tu n'es pas allé consulter la page de la doc qu'on t'a indiquée ci-dessus.
si et j'ai tenter d'installer le pilotes et comme reponse j'ai eus que tout etait deja disponible ...

Il se peut que le pilote soit en effet installé mais qu'il ne soit pas utilisé. Nouveau est le pilote libre pour les cartes Nvidia, et non le pilote proprio indiqué dans la page de la doc que tu es allé voir.

Il faut voir si tu as un fichier /etc/X11/xorg.conf et si oui, son contenu.
donc non je n'ai pas de Xorg.conf sinon je ne serais pas ici, deplus j'ai retenté l'installation du pilote qui c'est passé de prime abord très bien ... après redémarrage plantage kernel mais avec la bonne définition d'image ...^^, jusque la sa allé, mais a peine ai je voulu lancer un logiciel (genre firefox pour venir sur le forum que redémarrage ... et ceci at vitam, jusqu'a ce que je decide de réinstallé, le probleme etant hors de mon niveau donc nous sommes le jeudi 22 octobre 2009, il est 20:10 et je viens juste de faire mon premier redémarrage après réinstallation ...

100 fois sur le métier remettez votre ouvrage ...
100 foies sur le mets tiers mettez vos trou vague ...

La commande :
nvidia-xconfig --mode-list=1280x960 1024x768
devrait te créer un fichier xorg.conf.

Après il faudra peut-être définir un modeline pour le mode 1280x960 :
gtf 1280 960 <frq>
avec <frq> la fréquence de rafraichissement.

P.S. : ne pas oublier de redémarrer la session graphique !
je doit etre un nul ou pas taper la commande au bon endroit mais il me réponds que

"bash: nvidia-xconfig : commande introuvable ...

si je suis nul n'ésitez pas a la dire ...

par contre j'ai retenter une manip et je l'avoue par peur de replantatge je n'ai pas osé jusque au bout :
j'ai resuivis les instructions pour les pilotes ...

N'installe pas la clé
avant d'avoir un affreux doute j'ai lus quelques par cet après midi qu'il y a un souci et que pour moi les driver qui corespondrai serait les drivers legacy, mais quand j'ai tenter rien ne c'est passé ...

donc si vous me dites que c'est ok pour sa je vous le dis c'est après sa que j'ai reinstaller mon système car plus capable de lancer une application sans redémarrer mon server X, quant a mon anciens noyau après chargement du système il fait un magnifique écran noir et ne vit pluys derrière ...

donc voila qu'en pensez vous docteur ???

Il dit qu'il ne peut pas afficher cette résolution car la synchro verticale ne correspond pas à ce qu'attend l'écran.

Et à voir le pilote que tu utilises, tu n'es pas allé consulter la page de la doc qu'on t'a indiquée ci-dessus.
C'est plus ce poste là qui m'inquiète ! Relis la doc et surtout la partie sur nouveau

Il faut lancer la cammande en root. Le chemin complet est /usr/sbin/nvidia-xconfig

Quels pilotes as-tu installés, au juste ? (je suis perdu)
Pourrais-tu donner le résultat de la commande :
rpm -qa |grep nvidia
Pour ce qui est des pilotes, je n'ai pas installé le pilote disponible car peur de replantage complet ...

sinon la commande en root donne :
[root@bigmoi /]# /usr/sbin/nvidia-xconfig
bash: /usr/sbin/nvidia-xconfig: Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type
[root@bigmoi /]#
