Je vien d'installer fedora core 6 Sur mon PC portable.
Je n'ai eu aucun problème lors de l'installation,et tout c'est bien passé,Cependant je n'arrive pas à configurer mon ecran en 1024X768 chaque fois que je le fais sa ne fonctionne pas et il reste en 800X600,donc l'affichage ne remplie pas les 15 pce de l'ecran.

Je possède un portable IBM à base de chipset intel. Je joins mon fichier xorg.conf.
Mon afficahe est en 1024x768. C'est le fichier de l'installation, je n'ai touché à rien.
Si ça peut de dépanner ...

mais le probleme aussi c'est que je suis un transfuge de windows.
Je n'y connais rien dans linux et beaucoup d'applications sont encore du chinois pour moi .
Il ya pourtant dans fedora un panneau de config pour mon écran et quand je change la résolution il me demande de me déconnecter pour que les modifs soit prises en charge.mais rien ne se pass ?

As tu essayé de retirer et de remettre ton écran avec /usr/bin/system-config-display deuxième onglet.
Et de voir si il porposait d'autres résolutions. Une autre solution comme il est dit plus haut éditer le fichier pour lui faire prendre la plage de résolutions voulus.
C'est un Gericom hummer sur une CM intel avec PIV 2,4 Ghz chips Graphique intégré Intel 845G
J'ai plusieurs propositions d'affichage jusqu'au 1280x1024 et je voudrais mettre 1024x768 au lieu de 800x600.
Je rajoute que je suis un novice avec linux, vraiment novice J'ai tellement l'habitude avec windows,que je suis perdu là.

Lorsque le système te demande de redémarrer X Server, tu peut faire Ctrl+Alt+Backspace depuis Gnome. Ton écran va allors devenir noir puis la page de Login va s'afficher à nouveau, les nouveaux paramètres seront pris en compte.

Bon il va falloir jouer de la ligne de commande dans un terminal.

Ouvre un terminal puis tape la commande
su -
qui te demandera ton mot de passe administrateur (super-utilisateur).
Ensuite pour faire au plus court et simple
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.save
afin de sauver ton xorg.xonf au cas où.
Puis
gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
afin d'éditer celui-ci, gedit te permettra un mode graphique.
Tu trouveras dans la Section "Screen" tes différents Modes. Je te conseille de rajouter derrière "800x600" "1024x768" s'il n'y ai pas.
Ensuite tu sauves et tu devrais avoir la résolution de disponible.
Si ça ne fonctionne pas poste ton xorg.conf que l'on jette un coup d'oeil.

je pense que tu tombes dans la generation de chipset video Intel ou celui ci me peux pas gerer la memoire au dessus du mega est c est pour cela que tu ne peux pas affichier mieux en resolution.

Voici, je pense, ta solution :
Il faut installe un petit bout de soft qui s appel i915 resolution qui initialise toute ta memoire video (support des chipset suivants :845G, 855GM, 865G, 915G, 915GM, 945G, and 945GM chipsets.):

installer le soft (passage en mode super ustilisateur) :
su
tu tapes ton mot de passe
ensuite :
yum install 915resolution
tape
/usr/sbin/./915resolution -l
tu dois avoir un cretain nombre de chiffre qui apparaissent :

ajoute cette ligne (descend avec ton curseur appuie sur la touche "inserer")
RESOLUTION="58 1280 1024"
(les valeurs en chiffre sont pour ma config, donc entre les tiens)
en suite pour sauvegarder tape sur la touche echape w q (l une apres l autre)

Je sais c est un peu long, mais cela devrait le faire, la on y est presque, la configuration de Xorg :
un copie de sauvegarde de Xorg
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.originale
vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf
appui sur la touche "inserer"
recherche dans ce fichier la section "Monitor" la valeur après ModelName
remplace ce que tu as par "
LCD Panel 1280x1024
" et à la section "Screen" après Modes mettre uniquement
"1280x1024"
en suite pour sauvegarder tape sur la touche echape w q (l une apres l autre)

Derniere etape le lancement su service, tu tapes :
setup
tu choisis dans la la liste : Services système
tu devrais avoir 915resolution qui apparait, appuie sur la barre d espace (tu auras un etoile devant) ensuite quitte le programme utilise la touche Tab).

reboot ta machine, je pense que cela devrait etre OK

Comprenez aussi que je suis aussi perdu que quand j'ai commencé avec Widows 3.1 il y a 20 ans.
C'es difficile à 49 ans d'attaquer un autre systeme d'exploitation.

PS: je rajoute qu'au démarage mon écran d'acceuille est en pleine écran et c'est une fois que j'arrive sur le bureau que je suis en 800X600

Quant on dit ouvrir une console (sous gnome) c'est Application--> Accessoires --> Terminal et tu tapes les commandes.
